Yoga Photography with Janie: Sunrise to Cenote in Playa del Carmen
I had the absolute pleasure of working with the beautiful Janie Rose for a special yoga photoshoot to help showcase her practice for her YouTube channel, Yoga with Janie Rose. Janie is an incredibly talented and dedicated yoga instructor that I admire, and I was excited to capture her in a way that highlights both her passion for yoga and the stunning natural beauty of Playa del Carmen.
Our session began bright and early, starting at sunrise — talk about a perfect setting for yoga. The soft, early morning light and peaceful ambiance made for an ideal atmosphere to showcase Janie’s graceful movements and connection with the world around her.
Starting the Day at Sunrise
There’s something truly magical about starting a photoshoot at sunrise on the beach. The world is still waking up, and the air and water are calm. We were both reminded of how lucky we are to live in this beautiful Caribbean paradise.
We met at a serene location with a beautiful, open view of the Playa del Carmen coastline. The gentle, golden light from the rising sun was just starting to peek through, casting soft hues across the beach. It was the ideal time to capture Janie’s fluid movements as she moved through various poses .
Janie’s energy was so inspiring to witness as she moved through each yoga sequence with intention and grace. From her sun salutations to the more complex balancing poses, she embodied tranquility and strength in each shot. I focused on capturing not only her perfect form but also the subtle connection between her practice and the surrounding environment. The stillness of the morning, combined with the peaceful energy of her poses, created images that felt harmonious and serene.
Moving to her Neighborhood Cenote
After a peaceful sunrise shoot, we made our way to one of her favorite spots— her neighborhood cenote tucked away in a quiet corner of Playa del Carmen. The cenote was the perfect contrast to the open beach environment, offering a lush, more intimate setting. Surrounded by vibrant greenery and clear, cool water, the cenote added an incredible element to the photos, again blending Janie’s yoga practice with the natural beauty of this area.
Capturing Yoga and Nature in Harmony
Throughout the day, I focused on more than just the physical aspects of Janie’s poses. My goal was to capture the emotion and connection that yoga fosters — the stillness, the breath, the deep connection between mind and body. And what better place to do that than in Playa del Carmen, where the energy of nature is so vibrant and alive?
Whether in the soft sunrise light or by the tranquil waters of the cenote, Janie’s photos showcase the peaceful and meditative aspects of her practice, perfectly aligned with the natural world. The photos aren’t just images of yoga poses—they’re reflections of mindfulness, focus, and serenity, all of which are core elements of Janie’s approach to teaching yoga.
